I have declared candidacy for New Mexico's 35th Congressional District. This district saved 15.8 jobs due to $8,960,709 in stimulus money. I currently reside in New Mexico, although I cannot tell you that I live in the 35th district. In fact, I'm not sure that anyone lives in the 35th district, since we have only three US congressional districts.
I believe in limited government and maximum freedom. I appreciate that the stimulus bill gave me the chance to run in the heretofore unknown 35th district of New Mexico, but I must say that if I was in Congress, I would have opposed it. I also oppose any attempt to have government take over health care in the US. I think the federal government should limit itself to those things it needs to do, which happen to be those responsibilities and powers given it in the US Constitution. If a government task is not justified by the Constitution, the government should not be doing it. It's amazing to me that the government wants to tell you and your friends and family what kind of health insurance to buy, but cannot control either our borders (where people sneak in) and prisons (where strong prisoners brutalize weaker ones). Our national borders and federal prisons are a federal government responsibility, but health insurance for the majority of our citizens assuredly is not.
Although I admit that I have earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree, in my defense I must point out that the degree is in electrical engineering. The engineering disciplines are tied to reality in a way that the humanities and social sciences often are not. I am not an ivory tower intellectual with a head full of bizarre theories. If my engineering designs don't work, then I have to admit that I made an error, and fix the designs. Because of that, I live in the real world and produce real results.
